The 3D in this project is inspired by the process used in the Dam Keeper. Though the end result of our animation will contain no 3D, we used 3D To help with the camera moves and the environment, we created a 3D environment and then did rough 3D animation of characters moving over that environment. The idea was to be able to quickly create camera moves, while always having a reference for those camera moves. This technique helped us quickly and efficiently reiterate on camera and background.
Because we had entire backgrounds planned out in 3D we were able to move the camera around the scene to see what the background looked like in those camera moves. It was incredibly helpful in animating the background.
